Mankind has been trying to reject God’s authority from time immemorial! Every person, considered as great or not, has searched for ways to rationalize replacing God with terms like “mother nature”, “father weather”, or “father time”, and the like. All these attempts have proven to be futile.
No amount of logic or human reasoning can defeat the living God. There are examples of many genuinely great scientists, philosophers, engineers, inventors, artists and other creative people, of the past and present times, who professed their faith in God.
Romans 1:18 inspires me tremendously. In the ESV version, it reads as “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” I am in awe of God who can show His wrath on us for our ignorant lack of understanding, and yet be patient with us!
Let me explain how this verse can be linked to infinity and God. The Bible reveals many of the characteristics of God like His omnipotence, omniscience, omnipresence, transcendence, and immanence. These qualities can only exist in a being that is infinite.
Therefore, let us be humble and understand the limitations of our minds. Our concepts of love, knowledge, and life are finite. They are limited by our experience of the world since we are finite beings living in a finite universe. This means that any definition we try to apply to the attributes of God will be inadequate to define Him!
In summary, can anyone explain what infinity is? The answer is that we can only define infinity through limits but we cannot actually know what its value is! In the same way, the infinite God cannot be understood in our human definitions but we can certainly liken Him to “some sort of limit”! However, we can have a wonderful relationship with Him because He loves us beyond our understanding.
Therefore, God – the Ultimate Mathematician and the Universal Genius – who is infinite, cannot be understood by our finite minds! However, He can be approached through humility and prayer (which is communication with Him).
