My beloved mother

Mama-new

On May-29-1950, Mama married Papa in India,

And set sail for Malaysia with high hopes and euphoria.

On the ship, she fell sick with severe vomiting and stomach problems,

And our parents reached Malaysia with Mama in doldrums.

By a miraculous act of God, Mama was able to recover in time.

We can believe what happened was grace divine and sublime!

When we reminisce about the things she used to do for us,

We really miss her and feel that she is still providing her snugness.

Mama was an inspiration to all of us, her children and family,

Teaching Chinni and I to play checkers and chess most affably.

With her taunts whenever Chinni used to beat me many a time,

Laughing at my sulky face after a lot of defeats brought many a whine!

When we are weary from the burdens we have borne,

And the path is unclear and we feel so weak and forlorn,

We remember her loving support was always near

And her advice made the path ahead seem noticeably clear.

When we feel there is nobody who seems to care,

Or when the heartache seems too hard to bear,

We need to remember how Mama always stood by our side

And would tenderly wipe away the tears we cried.

When there are moments of great joy, hope, love and pride

And we wish and pray that Mama was standing at our side,

We remember she saw more than we thought we could become,

Everything we are today is by our wrong deeds Mama had undone.

We remember what she gave lives on through us every second,

And one day we will see Mama in a space-time continuum beckon.

She now stretches her arms to display all the beauty of her diadem,

That she will give us when we have finished our race of mayhem!

Post-Script:

Mama shared her date of birth (June-15) and her date of death (November-02) with Saint Geevarghese Mar Gregorios of Parumala, popularly known as Parumala Thirumeni. An amazing coincidence! In her better days, Mama used to go to Parumala church regularly.
